Oxygen level was so low that we found it extremely difficult even to move one step forward …

The temple, though looked closer, was almost at a distance of 2 kms, which we covered by walking. The snow-clouds that kept crossing us screened others from our view … oxygen level was so low that we found it extremely difficult even to move one step forward. My grandma, periyamma who had underwent a bypass surgery, Mohan’s wife Uma, and some one or two people lied on the bench of a tea shop, unable to bear the height and snow. We removed our shoes and massaged oil on our legs for some relief from the chill. We entered the Kedarnath temple, covering the distance slowly, supporting each other.

Things to be taken for the trip

1. Less luggage. Three or four sets will be enough. There are facilities for washing our clothes in some places. Woolen dresses are a must. Two sets of thermals, woolen cap, gloves etc. should not be forgotten.
2. If the number of people is more, better take a cook along with you. Pulka roti and fruits will be available on the way. Biscuits and juices will be handy for those who take children along with them.
3. A small bag is necessary for each individual. You can keep medicines, water bottle, shawl, cotton for ears, lemon pieces for use when you have nausea, gooseberry pieces, ginger etc. Also, keep some cash.
4. Headache pill is a must. It is better to carry oxygen mask.
5. Those with problems like BP or sugar should consult their doctors and carry the required medicines without fail.
