Imayam - Chapter 6        By Meera Nagarajan

The Himalayas, the mind-blowing marvel …!

At the Thriyugi Narayana temple, the ‘yagna’ fire, lit up for the wedding of Lord Siva with Parvathy is burning even today!

We had some leisure then. Our guide Ayyavu told us about the Thriyugi Narayana temple where the homam fire, lit up for the marriage of Lord Shiva to Parvathy was still alive! The temple was nearby, at a distance of around ten kilometers only, he said. Except our grandma, who couldn’t come because of her health problem, all the 26 of us were immediately ready to start. We ordered for four jeeps. For each jeep, to and fro, they charged Rs. 900. After traveling two kilometers, we understood the reason for the high charge. The mountainous path was rough and perpendicular. Even a slight slip will result in death. The deserted and risky road made us doubt whether there really was a temple at the top. After sometime, we saw a temple appearing as a dot. Ayyavu said that it was Sirkada Vignesh Mandhir, the place where it is believed Parvathy ordered the Vinayaka made of turmeric powder, not to allow anybody inside when she went for bath. When Vinayaka didn’t allow even Lord Shiva, the enraged Lord beheaded Vinayaka and afterwards, replaced it with the head of an elephant, it is told. We prayed to Vinayaka to take care of our safety. Our prayers were granted. We entered the majestic and beautiful Narayana temple after a dreadful journey. The homam fire, lit up by Narayana during His sister’s marriage which is believed to be burning since three yugs engulfed us with bewilderment. When we received that ash as prasadam, we felt like seeing the Lord and Parvathy going around the homam! We ran into rapture…! The hardships and fear we underwent before reaching the temple, all disappeared from our minds instantly on seeing the homam …!
