Siddhas are with us ...! Chapter - 14, kalyanamalaimagazine

That shepherd boy must have been around eighteen years. Though illiterate, he was deeply interested in spirituality and he used to meditate while tending the sheep at the hill area. One day, he suddenly felt that the Lord might be at the top of the hill. And, he decided to go and find the truth for himself. Accordingly, he left for the hill one morning and started climbing it. The path leading to the top was full of thorny bushes and was very hard surfaced with broken rocks here and there. But, the young man, unmindful of these hazards went ahead without any supportive gear. Suddenly, cool breeze started blowing. The boy was surprised. And, when he rested under a tree for a few minutes, an elderly person suddenly appeared before him. The boy was totally confused and astonished at the sight of the sage.

The sage asked him where he was going. The boy replied “To see the God!” The sage asked which God he meant; the boy replied that he believed that the God was there at the hilltop and that he was proceeding to see Him. At this, the sage asked who told him that the God was there. The boy said that the idea just flashed in his mind one day. Then the sage asked what his purpose to see the God was. When the boy replied that it was his wish, the sage again asked what his wish was. At this, the boy replied that he was going to pray to God, “Lord, I want your darshan. The world should flourish; there should be enough rains; all the animals should flourish; there should be no diseases and no deaths.” On hearing the boy’s explanation, the sage laughed loudly. He then asked the boy whether he was not going to ask anything for himself. The boy replied in the negative and said that he wanted the world and the people to do well. Pleased with his reply, the sage gave a fruit to the boy telling him that his wish would be fulfilled if he ate that fruit. When the boy raised his head after taking the fruit, the sage was not there to be seen. He looked for him at all places but the elderly person was not to be found anywhere.

Then, the boy ate the fruit. After a few hours, he climbed down the hill. The boy was looking very radiant; there was a divine glow in his eyes. He didn’t return home but sat under a papal tree and started meditating. People came to him with their problems and he helped them out all with his soothing words. All his predictions came true. Years passed by. The boy didn’t move from that place.

He came to be known as Jadamudi siddha or Aattidai siddha. He understood the miseries of people just by looking at them and helped them all with relief from their miseries through his powers. Today, there’s an anthill under that tree where the Jadamudi siddha used to sit. It is believed that he is still there alive inside the anthill. People hear the words “Om Namasivaaya” from inside the anthill during nights. The place is at a hilly area in the state of Karnataka. Whoever prays to Jadamudi siddha for help, his problem vanishes immediately. Siddhas are the representatives of God. They are with us even today helping us in times of misery and want.
