He was burdened with heavy debts. He sold off all his property and cleared a good portion of his debts, but still he couldn’t manage as the balance amount was still unmanageable. So, he left his home without the knowledge of anyone. He kept wandering for some time and in the meantime, lost whatever money was left with him. Eventually, he reached Podigai hills. When he was totally drained due to hunger and was sitting under a tree, there appeared before him a pocket of food and a pot containing water. He ate the food and drank the water. He didn’t pause even for a minute to wonder how the food came to him. He then decided to cling on to that place. He decided that he could eat if he got food or otherwise he could spend the rest of his life chanting the name of the Lord.

Three days passed by. He didn’t feel hungry and nobody offered him food also. On the fourth day, food and water appeared before him like it happened on the first day. After eating the food, he started wondering who that merciful person who was offering him food was. Suddenly, he heard a voice from the heaven accusing him of reckless behavior in borrowing and then ditching his family. The voice was heard again and again. But the man didn’t lose heart. He was firm on his decision that if he got money again he could do some business or otherwise end his life there itself.

TThree days passed by and the man waited patiently. But he was disappointed on not getting food and water contrary to his expectation. He was confused. He was not getting food and the voice was insisting on his returning home. He decided to end his life. He climbed the hill and jumped down from the top. When he opened his eyes, he was surprised to feel that he was being carried in the hands of a sage through the clouds! Then he closed his eyes due to hunger. When he opened his eyes again, he saw himself lying on a bed of grass. The sage fed him with fruits and honey. The man recovered from his weakness and asked the sage who he was. The sage told him that arrangement had been made for clearance of his debts and asked him with a smile to return home and to give up the idea of suicide at the sacred Podigai hills. Then, he walked up and disappeared. When the man was wondering at the happenings, he saw a bag under the pot. When he opened the bag, he saw huge money inside it. And, he had a surprise at home also. He learnt that all his debts had been cleared by a stranger.

When he wondered who that Siddha was, he learnt that it was Gorakkar who carried out the instructions of sage Agasthya. And, when he wondered whether he had earned that amount of punyam to be saved by a Siddha, he heard the voice of Gorakkar telling him that he was a punyavan.

This incident is not a fiction but a real story. Even today, Siddhas are present among us, willing to help us at times of need and emergency.
