Save marriage … save the institution …
Save marriage … save the institution …, Vazhkai vasapadum, Kalyanamalai Magazine

There’s no family that doesn’t have problems or misunderstandings. These factors are inherent in the institution of marriage and family. But, transcending all these negative factors, the concept of family is still popular thanks to the magic word ‘happiness’ that cements the bond between the members forgetting their differences. Happy events and deeds make us forget the differences that have crept in. Some go outstation to enjoy and become happy. Some take a walk on the beach, which has become a very favorite pastime for many. Happiness should be part of our daily life. Whenever we feel that happiness is slipping by, we should make extra efforts to hold it back. Happiness is not a thing like festival which is occasional; it is and should be part of our daily life.

If happiness can be achieved through our daily routine, 99% of the problems could be avoided. Start the day with enthusiasm, plan the things that you want to do for your family. Cooking, going to office, looking after the needs of the children, maintaining the house, etc. are tasks that form our routine. Whatever work we do, we should do it wholeheartedly and also enjoy doing it. Some men wouldn’t stay at home for long for fear of being ordered by their wife to do some household work or other. They would escape from the situation by limiting their stay at home. But, this is not the correct solution. They have to return home and face their wives. Instead, if they share the work with their wives, both can enjoy the time doing things together and this togetherness would add to their love and affection. A working daughter-in-law might feel frustrated at the thought of having to cook the dinner on her return from the office. She might curse her aged mother-in-law in her mind and expect her to cook the dinner. But the daughter-in-law could avoid this tension by taking things easy by thinking that after all she was doing things for her own family. She can start cooking after a cup of hot tea. She could do things in a relaxed manner listening to the evening songs on the radio. We can derive pleasure in each and every work we do if we learn to enjoy doing it. We shouldn’t feel it as a burden but should feel like an enjoyment. If we tune our mind this way, even the heaviest or the most boring work would become enjoyable.
