Potpourri of tidbits about Tamil cinema - Kalaignar Karunanidhi
First Importance
People from cinema industry invariably have arranged for a number of functions praising the contributions of Kalaignar to the industry. It is his speciality to willingly agree to such requests and participate in the functions. Similarly, he never missed any good or bad occasions in families of known cinema artists.
It is always easy for people from the press, film industry and the ordinary citizens to meet Kalaignar without hassle. All one has to do is to make a formal request to his assistants mentioning the reasons for such meet. His assistants after finding Kalaignar’s availability will organise the meeting and communicate the time and date. He will always give more importance to meeting journalists.
Once, Kalaignar came to 'Fourframe theatre' at Nungambakkam for the pre-view of the film 'Iyya' produced by K.Balachander's Kavithalaya. At the end of the show, he gave a very short and crisp review about the film to the reporters. I requested for his autograph in the book 'Nenjukku Needhi' wrote by him. Sarathkumar and Nepolean who were beside Kalaignar have introduced me to him as a reporter from the Kumudham magazine. Kalaignar while signing the autograph smilingly asked me whether I have finished reading the book. I replied him, No Sir, I bought the book only today and will complete the reading tonight. He just thanked me and moved away from the place.
